The Annual Buxton Wells
Dressing Festival Carnival Procession is Buxton's largest single
event attracting over 20,000 people, who come from far and wide
to enjoy the atmosphere that Carnival brings to Buxton. The picture
on the left is taken from the 2006 Carnival and shows the float
entered by Buxton Woodworks.
Again an image from 2006,
the Fire Brigade with their mascot Wellyphant. The Carnival Procession
itself follows a route around the town that runs for about 2
miles. The Buxton Carnival Procession is organised by the Buxton
Wells Dressing Festival Commitee and there is a link to thier
website on the left for anyone who wishes to get in touch for
further information. Mellors Funfair will once again be on the
Market Place for 2007 rides opening on Wed 11th July.
Carnival
day starts with events around town from 11.30 am with the procession
itself starting at 2.00pm, this does cause disruption to the road
system and some roads in town will be closed to traffic, starting
at around 12 noon so get in early to avoid disappointment. The
procession is the culmination of a week of events and the next
Carnival will be on Saturday 14th July 2007.For further information
about road closures click here for Derbyshire
Constabulary.
