is a Spa town famous for its natural warm springs. Sitting in a
natural bowl around 1000ft above sea level, part of the Peaks and
Dales of Derbyshire. The earliest history can be traced as far back

Buxton
is the source of the River Wye, one of the countries great rivers
starting its life high in the moorland above the town, flowing calmly
through the Pavilion Gardens where it finaly tumbles into a culvert
and glides silently unseen underneath the town emerging fully on
the other side of in Ashwood Park, then winding through the deep
limestone ravines of Ashwood Dale, the River Wye forms another function
in Buxton as the boundary between the two parishes of Buxton &
Fairfield. Close by to the east of Buxton is Goyt Valley,The River
Goyt also has it's origins in the Hills and moorland above Buxton
flowing through some of the most breathtaking scenery from high
moorland and wooded valleys and feeding the two reservoirs of Errwood
& Fernilee, until ultimatly ending with it's joining the River
Mersey in Stockport. |
