Chatsworth House is one of, if not the finest of Englands Country Houses, The ancestral home of The Cavendish family The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire still live here, the House is set in magnificent park land of 1,000 acres with a large wooded area of mature English Woodland as its backdrop and with the river flowing quietly past the front of The House, if you have any interest in this type of architecture you can't help but be impressed.
In the house there you 12 rooms that visitors can see and the world famous garden has spectacular water features, people are welcome to walk, picnic and play here and in the surrounding park land. Many of the 175 rooms have been converted to flats, offices and storage areas, but those accessible for viewing, includes several state rooms that are quiet simply stunning, full of fine art, Italian sculptures, fantastic furniture and painted ceilings by Louis Laguerre, There is a farmyard and adventure playground which welcomes young visitors and families and has special activities throughout the year, a special time at Chatsworth is Christmas when the house is dressed for the Festive Season.

Built in 1552 for Bess of Hardwick and her second husband, Sir William Cavendish of Suffolk, Chatsworth took the traditional Tudor shape of four ranges round a central courtyard. At the end of the 17th century the 4th Earl (who was later created the first Duke of Devonshire) began to rebuild the entire house and develop the formal gardens, an amalgamation of several architect's work spanning some 20 years resulted in this refined mansion of deep yellow stone that we can see today. Also during this time the spectacular cascade was built by Grillet the French architect and the domed temple sourcing the water supply was designed by Thomas Archer.
