How To Get There

From Buxton, take the A537 for Macclesfield, Teggs Nose Country Park is signed at the Buxton Old Road turning at Walker Brow.

Teggs Nose Country Park is full of mixed habitat consisting of open heather moorland, meadows and woodlands. The park lies on Teggs Nose, a distinctive hill where paths take visitors to some exceptional views. There is a separate visitor centre with a car park. Tegg's Nose Country Park is the ideal place to break the northern and central sections of the Gritstone Trail, a 56km/35mile walk from Disley to Kidsgrove through some of the most rugged and spectacular scenery in Cheshire. It can be walked over two or three days, or as a series of shorter, circular walks.

A major project to rebuild over 500 metres of drystone wall at Tegg's Nose Country Park began in October 2002 following a successful bid to the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund. In addition to rebuilding existing walls within the park there are plans to build a new wall at the entrance of the park. Already an attractive shelter feature consisting of two overlapping stone walls has been built at the top of the picnic area and over the next few months schools and local community groups will be invited to work with artists to create special seats and other features using local stone.

Experience Cheshire's wild hill country at Tegg's Nose Country Park above Macclesfield and enjoy tremendous views across the Cheshire Plain. Take a close look at the gritstone in the old quarry, or follow the waymarked Tegg's Trail around the park. Look out for mountain pansies in the meadows, or stop and watch for birds in the shelter of the woodland.
